For the last few days there’s been a ‘spike’ on funerals. Friends will ask me, “Hey, how’s it going.” With a downcast face I’d say, “Three funerals this week.” or “Four funerals in the last few days.” Etc… It’s been a sad time.. Then this morning I read something from the smartest, wisest man who ever lived.. (Not a bad person to learn from right?) He said,
Better to send your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies – so the living should take this to heart.. Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us. A wise person thinks a lot about death, while a fool thinks only about having a good time.
Before I started here, Russell Franklin (the American Legion District Chaplain) had been doing this job for over 10 years. Over a decade of funerals, he must be one of the most refined people I know.
Yesterday I read in Ecclesiastes 6:11
The more words that are spoken, the more smoke there is in the air. (The Message)
So…. I’ve said enough… ;-)
